Please find enclosed a copy of Alan Bennett’s „The Uncommon Reader” which I am giving to the People’s Bookshelf.
My husband and I visited the National Library of Latvia on a recent visit to Riga at the end of May, and we were impressed with the concept and design of your People’s Bookshelf. We were also told that you accepted any book from anyone, and so I am donating the enclosed.
Alan Bennett is one of our most cherished man of letters. This book is very funny and suggests that our Queen is barred from reading. Whether that is true I do not know but it lends itself to an interesting idea for a story!
Good luck with your beautiful library and we look forward to visiting Riga again in the future.
