While the sloop is still standing tall,
While my heart still beats,
While the suns till gleams on ripples blue.

The introduction to one of Evert Taube’s most renowned poems (and the collection of poems bearing this title) is laden with beauty and existential meaning. It recalls many a childhood memory of how I basked in familiar wamth, closeness and fellowship.

My father sang Taube’s songs with feeling and great expression. My sister and I sat in his lap. Dreamful as we lost ourselves in the winding texts, the epic strophes and imaginative illustrations.
It is with true joy and pride that I complement the Peoples Bookshelf with Taube’s collection of poems.
